Unfortunately, we received no entries by the competition deadline. Therefore the competition ended without a winner.

BaseTen needs demonstration software that makes the framework shine.

If you have an idea for a kick-ass, open source, BaseTen-based application, get coding: the developer of the best such app will win a brand new Core 2 Duo MacBook.

Here are the official rules:

  • The competition is open for all persons over 18 years of age residing in a country or territory where it is legal for Apple to sell and deliver computers, and where a competition like this is not prohibited by law.
  • The winning entry must be received by MK&C before February 28th, 2007, 23:59 UTC. An email sent to info@… with a download link is the preferred method of delivery. MK&C will reply to this email to confirm that your entry has been received.
  • The entry should be a Universal Binary and work on Mac OS X 10.4.8 with a standard PostgreSQL 8.1.5 installation.
  • You will retain the copyright for your application, but the version you submit into this competition must be licensed under an open source license, such as the GNU GPL, that allows MK&C to freely modify and redistribute the source code of your application.
  • The entry must be accompanied with instructions for building and running the application. You are also asked to include a brief description detailing why you think your application should win the competition.
  • The winning entry must compile and work against the BaseTen framework's current version (in the svn.karppinen.fi repository) on February 28th, 2007, 23:59 UTC, or against any earlier version. The required version must be specified in your entry's build instructions.
  • You are free to enhance the BaseTen framework with bug fixes and additional features, but you need to submit these changes for integration into the svn repository as early as possible to ensure their integration into the tree before the entry deadline. The copyright for all necessary BaseTen modifications must be assigned to MK&C. See the contributing to BaseTen? page for details.
  • MK&C will choose the winner at its sole discretion, based on the overall quality of the entry and its ability to demonstrate the power of BaseTen.
  • Employees and contractors of MK&C cannot enter this competition.
  • The winner is responsible for paying all applicable taxes on the prize. The value of the prize for taxation purposes is the manufacturer-suggested retail price of the MacBook configuration in the winner's country of residence on February 28th, 2007, 23:59 UTC.
  • The deadline was extended from January 31st to February 28th on January 4th, 2007.
